We know our onions, or valves and pump adaptors in this case. Within the bicycles industry there are 3 type of valves that are currently used - Schrader valve - car type valve, also know as AV (auto valve), or the 'thick/fat one' for those who just ride bikes. This type of valve features a lot on mountain bikes, hybrids bicycles, BMX and childrens bikes. Presta valve - also known as HP (high pressure), SV (sports valve), French valve, or the thin/skinny one for those who really don't care for technical names. This type of valve features on all road bikes, some hybrid style bikes and is used more and more on mountain bikes (MTB/ATB). Woods valve - also known more traditionally as the Dunlop valve. This type of valve was used on the older type of bicycle, from 3 speed adult bikes right down to some childrens bikes. Some 'oddball' brands and some foreign import bike still utilise this valve type. |
